Without bothering to introduce herself, Amelie stepped up next to Maya and wrapped one arm around her waist, supporting her.  "Come on, let us leave."  She whispered in her friends ear, gently stepping forward.  "We must make it there before the zombies find us, but once we are there, you must let Albert treat you.  Alright?"  Amelie asked, looking into Maya's eyes, showing her that she means it.

Amelie followed closely behind, but not too close to where Maya couldn't stop.  Slowing down briefly, she strung her bow, wanting to be ready if needed.  "So, where ARE we going?" She asked, curious, hoping Maya wouldn't think she was questioning her.

The patrol Taryn had sent out saw the bear attack the strange wolf and intervened.  Working together, they chased the bear off before turning their attention to the wolf.  The eldest wolf in the patrol sent the fastest runner back to camp to tell Taryn and the medicine keeper about the attack while the rest of the patrol transformed back and began to asses the damage.  Sighing, the oldest gently scooped the wolf up and turned on his heel, heading back to camp.

The wolf flew into camp, flinging dirt and dust everywhere.  He skidded to a halt in front of her teepee and turned back, before calling out to her.  "Taryn, I need to see you and Elder NOW!"  He said, a frantic tone in his voice.  "Alright, alright.  Calm down!"  She pulled back the flap and came out into the evening sun.  "I'm coming, take a deep breath."  She turned on her heel and headed toward the den of the medicine keeper.  "Elder, we need to see you."  She said, talking a bit louder than usual.

An elderly lady opened the flap of her tepee and beckoned them in.  "Yes, what do you youngsters need?"  She asked, her voice slow and shaky.  "There was a wolf, who was attacked by a bear.  He needs you to heal him."  He said, his words coming out in a rush.The old lady nodded her head and stood.  "Very well, have them bring him to me once they arrive."  And with that, she shooed them out of her home so she could prepare.  Just then, the patrol burst into camp, all surrounding the injured wolf.  "Take him to the Elder."  Taryn said, heading to her tent.  The eldest from the patrol gently shook the lone wolf, looking down at him concernedly.

Taryn stood adn turned around, heading slowly back to camp, dragging her russet paws through the dirt making small clouds.  She reflected upon the past few months in the tribe.  She had only recently become chief and after that everything had slowly begun to go downhill.  Someone had planted doubts about their chief into the mins of her tirbe, and she didn;t know who.  But, she was determined to find out.  Entering camp, she called out for the border patrol and told them about the strange wolf, giving them specific instructions to bfring the wolf to her if he was found.  Taryn then turned and headed to her teepee, so that she could think in silence.

"You can pass."  Taryn twitched her tail and stayed seated, watching the strange wolf.  "But pass fast, and leave my tribe alone.  Alright?"  She gave him a look that clearly said she didn't want him to mess with her.

"Depends."  Taryn said, sitting down and wrapping her tail around her huge paws.  "Are YOU a friend or foe."  She cocked her head at him, waiting curiously for his answer, knowing it would decide how he was treated.

Taryn caught up to Jake within a few steps out of camp.  She saw the strange wolf stand up and sent a message to Jake.  "Slow down, we need to seem friendly."  She stopped just a few feet away from the wolf and sat down in front of him, trying to be friendly.

The guard nodded and turned from Jake.  He shifted into a wolf in mid-step and took off running toward the center of camp, calling Taryn's name in his mind frantically.

Taryn heard her name being called and met the guard in the middle of camp. "What's wrong?"  She asked as soon as she had shifted back.  "The new comer... He has... Something to... Tell you."  The guard gasped, trying to catch his breath.  "Alright, go take a break and catch your breath.  I can handle this."  Taryn ran to where Jake's tent is at and skidded to a stop in front of him.  "Yes?"  She said, with a questioning look in her eyes.

Amelie shrugged and picked up her bow.  "I guess so."  She began to follow Maya cautiously, hoping she wasn't upset anymore.  "Maya, are you OK?"

"When I left, my dad was ill.  I never got news on him so I am not sure he is still... Uh, with us."  Amelie looked away from Maya and sat down on the ground.

She looked up when Maya made her sudden comment and nodded grimly.  "Yes, that is true.  But where will we go if not in hiding?"

"I get along well with anyone."  Amelie said and smiled sweetly at Maya.  "As long as they are willing to be with my... Almost perfect English."  She looked briefly down at the floor and then back up at Maya.  "I was a foreign exchange student here, I was ready to leave the day after the virus hit.  My host family got attack, so that ended my plans."  She wiped a single tear from her eye, she missed her host family greatly.  They had almost been her family for the two years she had been in America.

"That's fine.  I will have some one wake you up when it's time to eat."  Taryn turned and left two warriors standing by the entrance to his tent.  "Watch him, call me if he tries anything."

Taryn smiled at this question.  "As far as we know, the you kids we aren't sure about until they change for the first time."  She stepped up to a young warrior and whispered into his ear.  "Alright, I'll go show you where you are going to be staying for now, if you'll just follow me."  She turned and began to walk toward a spot near the center of teh camp, right next to the warrior's section of the camp.

Taryn stepped into camp with Jake following closely behind her.  Stopping in the middle of the crowded camp she shifted back and turned to Jake.  "I'll tell you where you will be sleeping, I hope you don't mind if we have guards by your tent, just until we know we can trust you."

Taryn looked back calmly.  "I'm also the chief of the tribe, I suppose I may as well take you in.  But don't try anything funny.  I will hunt you down."  She stood all the way up and shook her fur out.  "Follow me."  She thought, turning slightly toward her camp, not totally turning her back on him.
